Clovelly Pilot Gig Club
Back in mid November Clovelly attended the popular Winter series at Roadford Reservoir, hosted by Boscastle & what a day we had! With just one ladies crew, they entered both the open B's & the vets (over 40's), securing strong results, 6th & 7th places respectively. The men only had 5 rowers so we borrowed Peter (chairman of Barnstaple Pilot Gig Club CIO) & we entered the Supervets (over 50's) & Vets (over 40's) securing good results, 10th & 8th places respectively.Without our regular race coxes, I coxed the ladies B for the first time & doctor Paul coxed the ladies vets race for the first time. But the bravest of all was Debbie who coxed both the men's races, she's only steered the gig a couple of times! Taking the lack of race coxing experience into account, we were extremely pleased with our results. We continue to row through the Winter both at Clovelly & at Tamar Reservoir. We've seen plenty of wildlife at Clovelly recently, with the Herring back we saw several Porpoises & Gannets yesterday near Black Church Rock. Please message our page if you are interested in learning to row. You do not need any previous experience, as long as you are reasonably fit & keen to learn. In addition to rowing on the sea you can use our 5 rowing machines, housed in our gig shed near Clovelly Visitor Centre. Come & try either for free. See MoreSee Less
